Dog Training Basics
Dogs usually associate the kind of mood you have by your
tone of voice. It is important that you always imply positive tone in making a
command during verbal training. Moreover, it should be sharp and clear.
A good trainer should first understand and
know the different traits and personality of every dog about to be verbally
trained. This factor is important especially when you plan for the kind of
training approach to be given to the dog as well as the speed of the training
process.
For the puppy to recognize its name, caress and touch it
while constantly repeating its name. Do this every time you touch him and
eventually he will learn to associate this name to his identity. Every time you
feed your puppy, call him by his name and followed by the word "come". You can
start with this simple command since you can use it to associate with something
that the puppy wants. Moreover, always keep in mind to constantly praise your
puppy in a positive tone as well as reward them if you think they deserve.
The tough part of training a puppy especially for
inexperienced dog owner is housebreaking. Good thing about dogs is that they in
nature do not like to soil the area in which they eat and sleep. Bad thing is
that they do not know where is the proper place to eliminate since they are not
use to living in a house. The fact is, they do it in a place where they have
previously eliminated. If you caught your puppy eliminating in the wrong place,
give him verbal command such as "shame" and take him immediately outside. Make
your tone of voice firm to convey a message of disapproval. But never use the
word "no" since this will mean that he needs to stop and associate this with you
not wanting him to eliminate.
If there is a chance that your puppy will not reply to your command "come", never run after him. The best way to address this kind of problem is to call him by his name and walk away from him. He will eventually follow you and associate the command with you wanting him to come.
The most important thing in verbal training for puppies is to never scold or yell at them when you caught them doing things which you do not like. Instead, use correct word of command in a clear and firm tone to convey to them your message of disapproval. Remember, dogs usually associate your command to the act in which you caught them. Therefore, give proper and simple verbal command at the right place and at the right time.
